Medical centers do not fully bill for all services that they perform. Current billing systems and audit procedures that identify and bill services according to standard models overlook billing opportunities when unusual activities take place.
The tracking of patients and certain staff, physicians, and critical equipment was implemented with a dynamic schedule used to coordinate in real-time over 20 different departments and groups across the medical center. Detailed data indicating the exact sequence of events associated with each patient were collected and archived. These records were then compared to the medical center’s billing records to identify discrepancies.
