The company originated as a division of Optimization​ Alternatives Limited, Inc. (OA). OA built and implemented real-time control systems for the manufacturing and transportation industries from 1986 through 2008. HCS was spun off as its own corporation in February 2008 following the acquisition of OA by The Carlyle Group. The original founders and executive team of OA are now dedicated full-time to improving the productivity of the healthcare industry.
