An OR procedure requiring a pre-surgical MRI is delayed by 90 minutes due to volume backups in radiology. The 90-minute delay causes subsequent case delays that use the same physicians, staff, room, or specialized equipment. The result is lost productivity, increased staff overtime, reduced room and equipment availability, and decreases in patient, physician, and staff satisfaction.

Cases requiring out of department procedures were linked to the comprehensive OR schedule, and delays in those departments were made transparent to the OR. When significant delays occur, OR staff rearranges room and staff assignments through an intuitive click-and-drag GUI.
Benefits Documented
Over two hours of previously lost OR capacity per month has been recaptured. In addition, staff overtime has been reduced and patient, surgeon, and staff satisfaction has increased.
